The leather buying guides

From our Bellevue home shop to your everyday carry

Made where our family lives and works.

Our leatherwork happens in the middle of real family life. There are hides to cut, tools on the bench, pieces taking shape, and people learning from one another. Bellevue is where we make the work, not simply a place attached to a brand name.

Meet Horween leather
1

A home shop in Bellevue, Washington.

Desiree, Troy and Wesley each have a part in the story. The pieces are different because the people and ideas behind them are different too. That is one of the things we like about being a family shop.

2

A piece begins before the final photograph.

Before a finished wallet or tote is ready to show, there is the material, the layout and the cutting. Then comes the assembly: stitching, lacing or hand-set hardware, depending on the design. The visible details on the finished piece are connected to work you can see happening at the bench.

3

Local making, specific materials.

We use North American leathers across much of our work, including named tannery leathers on specific products. Making a piece here and identifying its leather are two useful facts, and we want to be clear about both. The product page is where to look for the material used in the exact item you are considering.

4

See the work, meet the people.

Our markets are a chance to see pieces in person and talk about them. Check the current market page for where we will be next. For a particular product or question, contact us directly. Our home shop is where we work; it is not presented as a walk-in retail store.

5

Choose for what they value.

For someone who enjoys discovering small makers, the place and the people are part of the gift. Our workshop photographs show the work in Bellevue, while the individual listings explain the material and finished design.
