Choosing a tote: look beyond the label
A bag should earn its place in your day.
A tote has a job to do before it becomes a favorite. Think about what you carry, how you like to hold it, and the opening you want to reach through. Compare the actual dimensions and interior, not just the look of a bag standing by itself in a photograph.

Look closely at the carrying points.
Handles, their attachments, seams and hardware are worth a careful look. They are part of how a bag feels and works, as well as how it looks. On our Mountain Line totes, hand saddle stitching and custom-set brass hardware belong to the design itself. Open the product photographs to see those details on the bag you are considering.
Know which material you are choosing.
Our bags are not all the same material. The Mountain Line uses premium North American leather, cut by our family in Bellevue. The red/green totes use a vegan leather coating for durability and strong water resistance. Those are different choices with different surfaces and care needs.
A retailer or price tag alone does not tell you which material you are getting elsewhere either. Look at the specific bag’s description, construction and finish before comparing it with another.
Choose a design that says something to you.
Crystal Mountain, Mount Rainier and Three Sisters are individual mountain designs. The shapes and colors are worked into the leather composition, giving each tote a connection to a place. That is part of why someone might choose one over a more anonymous bag: not just to carry their things, but to carry a story they recognize.
Make room for your own priorities.
You might want a light bag, a particular handle length, a very specific interior, or a design that feels personal. No single tote suits every routine. Our case is the material, the hand work, the mountain design and the family shop behind it. Compare those details with the way you actually use a bag.
Choose for what they value.
For a mountain lover, a tote can carry a connection to a particular place. For daily use, the handles, pockets and measurements still matter. Let the landscape draw you in, then check the construction and fit.

Can I treat all the totes the same way?
No. The materials differ, especially between the Mountain Line leather bags and coated red/green totes. Check the information for the exact bag, and ask us if you are unsure about care.
